Visit France’s first offshore wind farm & offshore test site
Missing out on the Saint-Nazaire wind farm while visiting the Atlantic Loire Valley? Unthinkable! The first French offshore wind farm, operated by EDF power solutions and commissioned late 2022.
It consists of 80 wind turbines, for a total output of 480 MW. The farm can supply the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of
700,000 people. It’s a unique experience that everyone should enjoy at least once!
Another particularity in France is the presence of a commercial wind farm located near an offshore test site, SEM-REV, operated by Fondation OPEN-C.
Created in 2012, the site has hosted the first offshore wind turbine in France since 2018, developed by BW Ideol. Fondation OPEN-C, as a research and technology infrastructure dedicated to floating wind turbines and marine renewable energies, operates the test site to host prototypes and help accelerate innovation from concept to real-sea deployment. This enables developers to save time, reduce costs, and mitigate risks by leveraging its infrastructure. This visit offers insight into how innovation and research happen in real-world conditions.
